Dear Future Leap community,
This newsletter is going out as our COP29 – A Retrospective Discussion is happening.
The event will be chaired by Megan Gallagher, our Operations Director who will be moving into the position of Strategic Partnerships Director. We can’t wait for her to make this role her own and focus on Future Leap’s partnerships and positioning.
We can’t wait to share insights with you about it after the event.
Recently negative climate news seems to have been coming thick and fast, not least the potential impacts of Trump’s second US presidency. COP 29 was initially mired in scandal relating to fossil fuel deal-making and the suppression of protest, and the outcomes have been widely criticised as woefully insufficient. During times such as these it is important to change perspective and zoom out. The reality is that progress is being made in many areas (albeit too slowly). As we move towards the end of the year it’s important to reflect, process and set goals for the new year. Now more than ever it is important to focus and push for meaningful action.
The Future Leap consultancy team is gearing up for a busy pre-christmas period heading into the new year. We commenced large projects with South Staffordshire PLC, supporting them on their project to set Science-Based net zero targets, and have started training and onboarding the team at Nijhuis Saur Industries in preparation for their global carbon footprinting initiative.
We are currently finalising the dates and locations for the interactive workshops that comprise our Bootcamp in Organisational Sustainability, due to start in January 2025, and are signing up learners. There are still limited places available for those working in the WECA region who want to gain the skills to progress sustainability within their organisations.
We were happy to welcome a group of students from Clifton College’s ‘Change Maker’ programme to talk about the net zero report we produced for the school, and workshop some ways that they could help reduce emissions. It was great to see the level of interest and engagement and hopefully we were able to impart some practical knowledge and tools.
Last, but by no means least, it’s been a month in the role for our consultant, George. He has been getting stuck in and up to speed with all our various projects and tools and we are chuffed to have him as part of the team!
We were proud to be shortlisted as a finalist for the 2024 Scale Up Awards in the “Sustainable Scale up of the Year” category. While we didn’t win, we’re really pleased in having our efforts recognised in being shortlisted as part of 6 finalists, from 300 submissions. Congratulations to Cheeky Panda for taking home the prize!
This is the last Future Leap newsletter for 2024, so we’d like to take this opportunity to wish you a wonderful festive period and an excellent start to 2025.
We can’t wait to connect with all of you in the new year.
Until then.
With relentless optimism,
The Future Leap Team
