May at Future Leap with Megan Gallagher

Hello Future Leapers,

I’m Megan, and I’ve recently swapped the Kiwi coastline for Bristol.  I’m here to support Future Leap as Operations & HR Manager, while Fenna is away on maternity leave. I’m eager to connect with more of our network and co-workers, so if you spot me or hear my Kiwi accent around Clifton or Gloucester Road offices, please don’t hesitate to say hi.

In New Zealand I led a climate membership organisation championing accelerated decarbonisation, resilience and just transitions whilst advocating to the government for long term stable climate legislation.

Transitioning from NZ to the UK has been a whirlwind. We often hear that the UK is a decade ahead, but from where I stand, the global sustainability scene is moving at warp speed. Climate action and sustainability is a significant focus, with businesses across both countries accelerating their ESG strategy and net zero pathway development, climate resilience plans and social sustainability initiatives.

Here are a few of the drivers across both countries that I have seen having a significant impact:

  • We’re witnessing the escalating impact of climate legislation with over 60% of global GDP now subject to mandatory climate related disclosures.
  • Trade agreements are becoming increasingly centred around climate seen in the EU Carbon Border Adjustments Mechanism (CBAM) which was introduced in late 2023. This will have a domino effect, other countries are bound to follow suit.
  • Large multinationals are continuing to increase climate requirements from across the value chain with research showing that 90% of the FTSE 100 will only work with suppliers who share their Environment, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) credentials (Onestream, 2023).

What I have noticed the UK advancing on is the biodiversity agenda with the release of the Biodiversity Net Gain and the implementation of cutting-edge tech like hydrogen and carbon capture.

I am excited to be part of Future Leap, with its holistic approach to accelerating climate ambitions, tackling the issue from several angles: From bespoke net zero consultancy services, green retrofit on commercial premises, sustainable finance and a sustainable business network forming the core of our community, we’re here to help everyone on their journey to net zero.

We’re looking for a new non-profit partner. Our two year partnership with Babbasa, DigiLocal, and Nature Connection is coming to an end and we’re looking for a new organisation whose voice we can amplify through the network, while learning from them and growing Future leap with their knowledge.

We have two offices coming up for rent in our Future Leap hubs.

A beautiful arch office at our Clifton space, boasting natural light and period features, suitable for 4-8 people. 20 m2 for your and your team at our popular Clifton site, The Old Chapel, 16 Oakfield Rd, Clifton, Bristol BS8 2AP. It’s the most attractive office in this co-working site, so it won’t be around for long.

Another office is coming available at the end of June at our Gloucester Road site. Suitable for 4-6 people in the heart of the Bristol independent shopping district at 1-3 Gloucester Rd, Bishopston, Bristol BS7 8AA.

Both have a minimum terms of six months. Discounts available for longer term contracts. Available furnished or unfurnished. Please reach out to hub@futureleap.co.uk for more info.

We’ve got some exciting partnerships and collaborations on the horizon, so watch this space. In the meantime, please feel free to drop me a line megan.gallagher@futureleap.co.uk.
