Bringing together two of the South West’s sustainability pioneers
At Ecotricity, we’ve been doing things differently for three decades. Ever since we became the world’s first green energy company when we were founded by Dale Vince OBE in 1995, we have been not-for-dividend. That means we use any excess profits from our bills to build new sources of green energy – as we like to call it, ‘bills into mills’.
We started with our first wind turbine at Lynch Knoll on the outskirts of Nailsworth, which is still turning and generating green energy today. Since there, from our base in Stroud, we’ve been building up the green energy infrastructure of the southwest and beyond. That has seen us build 24 wind parks across Britain (home to 74 windmills) and three sun parks.
Throughout that time, we’ve been supplying deep green energy to businesses across the UK and built strong relationships as the supplier for a range of pioneering green businesses across the southwest.
That’s what brings us to the Festival of Sustainable Business as the company’s headline & innovation partner. Our support of the event is rooted in our shared mission with the festival’s organisers, Future Leap: to help SMEs take meaningful action on the road to net zero.
Our business has been built on the philosophy of sharing what works, learning what doesn’t, and helping more organisations get on the path to net zero. That’s why we’re looking forward to hearing from the green pioneers of the southwest and beyond; there’s a lot of good stuff happening out there.
Our mission to end fossil fuels is focused on the three areas that make up 80% of the typical individual’s carbon footprint: energy, nature and food – while making space for nature. That will be our focus at the festival. So, we will take to the stage to share insights into the energy transition and practical steps SMEs can take toward a zero-carbon future.
We will also be on the ground at Bristol Beacon, sharing insights on our mission to eliminate fossil fuels throughout the event, so please do come and say hello to us at the event. We look forward to telling you all more about how we are building green Britain.
