Climate Action Policy & Project Manager (Part Time)

Department: Vice-Chancellor’s Office
Salary: Starting from £36,333, rising to £43,155
Closing date: Wednesday 14 June 2023

This is a great opportunity to make a real difference by joining the Climate Action Framework project team, our whole institution response to the Climate Emergency.

About the role:

In May 2020, the University of Bath declared a Climate Emergency and set out 11 Climate Action Framework Principles to frame our ‘whole institution’ response, including our commitments to achieving net zero, but also our commitment to addressing climate change through our core mission of education and research – Climate change and the University of Bath.

The team has a clear remit detailed in our Climate Action Framework. As the project continues to evolve, this role offers an exciting opportunity for you to shape the process, prioritising areas of focus and seeing a real impact from the project.

Under the leadership of the Project Lead, you will take the key role in managing the programme, including prioritisation, work planning and governance across the University-wide scope. This role will also take the lead on developing strategic responses on specific organisational climate issues – working through options analysis, stakeholder engagement and business case development as required.

To help drive this important work forward we are looking for a candidate who is passionate about climate change and has professional experience of managing sustainability programmes or projects and reporting progress to a governing board.

This role is a 0.5 FTE, and we are open to different flexible working arrangements – for example the role could be arranged as 0.6 FTE school term-time only.

About you:

We are looking for someone who can articulate complex ideas for a wide audience, and is confident in their sustainability knowledge. The post holder should be comfortable working with colleagues at all levels of the organisation, with an ability to support others in seeing linkages between their areas, or proposed projects and the climate agenda and engage them in the process of working through solutions.

Whilst knowledge of the higher education sector would be an advantage, many of the challenges faced by the University in responding to the Climate Emergency are similar to other sectors, so broader experience would be equally welcome.

What we can offer you:

– a very generous employer contributory pension scheme
– generous annual leave allowance with an additional 5 discretionary days so that you can enjoy a positive work life balance
– we are a family-friendly University and with an increasingly agile workforce, are open to flexible working arrangements
– an excellent reward package that recognises the talents of our diverse workforce
– a wide range of personal and professional development opportunities
– a number of support options available for new and existing staff to help with the cost of some immigration expenses which you may be eligible for: Relocation allowance, Interest-Free Loan.

We aim to be an inclusive university, where difference is celebrated, respected and encouraged. We have an excellent international reputation with staff from over 60 different nations and have made a positive commitment towards gender equality and intersectionality receiving a Silver Athena SWAN award. We truly believe that diversity of experience, perspectives, and backgrounds will lead to a better environment for our employees and students, so we encourage applications from all genders, backgrounds, and communities, particularly from under-represented groups, and value the positive impact that will have on our teams.

We are very proud to be an autism friendly university and are an accredited Disability Confident Leader; committed to building disability confidence and supporting disabled staff.

We are constantly seeking to reduce the unconscious bias that enters any assessment process, with the goal of creating an inclusive and equal assessment process. To support this, personal details will be removed from application forms at the initial shortlisting stage.
